The kids have come up with various ideas, but they all ended up with one.
Everyone wants to try this prank on their different teachers. It's the POPPING THE BALLOON prank. Some got scared, and some had no reaction.
All the kids had fun doing this and even wanted to do it again.
Everyone had a great time participating in this silly prank.
Well done, everyone! Thank you.

POW! , KAPOW!

]]>It was time to make some baskets in Art to collect the eggs.
First, we talked a little bit about Easter.
"What candy do you want to get in your basket?"
"I want gummies!""I want milk chocolate!"
Making an easter bag out of a brown paper bag is not the easiest.
However, with careful observation, it was a challenge the students were up to.
Students cut their bags, then rolled up their handles.
They watched the teacher carefully to be sure they were doing it right.
Then it was time to add some decoration.
Some students added flowers.
Others added grass.
No basket would be complete without some Easter eggs.
The baskets were finally beginning to take shape.
Take a look at our Easter baskets.

What do you hear?

Today the whole class worked together to create a piece of art.
Before beginning, we made a list on the board of some ideas for themes.
Spring, cherry blossoms, small animals, school year ending...
Students discussed which ones they wanted and why.
We decided Spring as an overall theme would work well.
Next it was time for students to write down their indiviual ideas.
Flowers, bees, cherry blossom season... there are so many things we think of when we hear the word "spring."
Each student presented their idea to the class and we found common themes.
Finally it was time to put all our ideas together.
We gave our work a title.
Little by little our artwork began to come together.
Today's message, "Spring is nice."

Finally, it's time to record! Can you sync up with the screen? Can you make your voice sound like the character? Can you remember your lines? There's so much to remember. Great job everyone!

That's right – we're talking about pranks! But what really makes a prank a hit? It's all about spreading the laughter to everyone involved, not just the prankster themselves. So, how do you distinguish between a funny prank and one that's a bit over the top?
We had a blast watching various prank videos and learning to differentiate between good-natured pranks and ones that might be a little too much. And let me tell you, the giggles were non-stop and some got really scared.
Today, we got our creative juices flowing and crafted some epic prank materials. As everyone got engrossed in their tasks, you could sense the excitement building up to unleash the ultimate pranks on each other. The anticipation was real! We can't wait for next week!

This Friday we will celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Today we tried out making some art to resemble celtic knots.
The first step to creating this art was to choose a color of paper.
"Oh no! Light green is gone!"
Then we needed to fold up the paper three times.
We tried with scrap paper to fold it first.
Two folds did not have the impact we wanted so we went with three.
Once students had their ideas, they began cutting.
They cut carefully so they wouldn't break the connected edges.
After unfolding the paper, students were amazed at how their designs turned out.
Finally it was time to glue our designs onto their background.
Every piece of art was different and unique.

But first things first, what is your voice? Where is it? If you remember when Ursula steals Ariel's voice in "The Little Mermaid," it's right in the middle of your throat. If you put your fingers there and make a sound, you can feel your voice vibrating.
After discussing how your voice works, we listened to some examples of people who can manipulate their voices to sound like other people or characters. These are called impressions, and it's a good way to learn how to do voice acting! Can you do any impressions?
To do Stitch, from "Lilo and Stitch," you have to talk from the back of your throat, and widen your mouth.
To do Mickey, you have to really pitch your voice upwards.
After practicing, we watched some scenes from animated movies, and next week, we are going to record ourselves doing the character voices. Oh boy!

Our theme was time travel.
We began the lesson by talking about the concept.
Past Present Future
We know the present is now.
However, understanding the past took some time.
"When would you like to go to?"
One idea put out was "to meet Tokugawa Ieyasu."
We talked about how that means going back to the Edo Period.
There were so many different items to choose from when it came to building our time machines.
To make it fair, the first round of picking items had a rule of "one big, two small, one base cardboard."
Many students had trouble deciding what they wanted to use. There were just so many options.
Maybe this long stick could be the center of the controls.
Some students went for a flatter time machine, others used layers to create a 3d effect.
Writing the timeline on the machine was a must.
Maybe this piece could be our turning knob.
Students had so many unique ideas that it was hard to decide on just one concept.
We took a class vote and decided there was just too much possibility in our ideas to rush it.
Here are what our time machines look like so far.
When would you like to travel to?

]]>Someone who has done something to fight against global warming is Greta Thunberg. She is an activist from Sweden who travels the world to speak to world leaders about the dangers of global warming. We read about her life and her activism.
We discussed why someone as young as she is has been making speeches and telling adults what to do. We talked about different types of speech, and how usually it's important to be polite and gentle with our words, but sometimes being direct and harsh can be necessary. Then we watched one of her speeches.
She used the phrase "blah blah blah" many times, and we talked about what that means. The students came up with examples of when they could use that phrase.
After answering some questions about Greta Thunberg's life, we asked ourselves the question: what can we do to help stop climate change? The students wrote their own plans and commitments.
Together, we can make a difference!

After learning about the lucky numbers of different countries and their significance, we moved on to figuring out our personal lucky numbers. We wrote down our birthdays on a piece of paper and calculated the sum of all the numbers.

What about you? What's your lucky number?

Reading Performance

Students discussed what they knew about polar bears, including where they live, what they eat, and and how big they are. Then we learned more facts about polar bears in preparation for our poster next week!
Did you know that a polar bear can smell a seal from up to 20 miles away?! Wow!
Next, we watched a video showing what happened to a polar bear when the ice she lived on melted too early in the year. She was thin, and weak, and cold because she had to travel so far to find food.
One thing we can do to help the polar bears is learn about them, and how global warming is affecting their lives. So next week, we will make our own poster to teach others what they need to know to help save the polar bears.
The students wrote some of the most interesting facts we learned today in their own words for our poster.
Then we wrote a few facts about what is happening to the polar bears.
Next week, we will make our own poster and show people how important it is to protect our planet from global warming.
Great job, everyone!

Since this month we're talking about numbers, today's main topic will be about percentages.
What's a percentage? A percentage is a number that tells us how much out of 100. We discussed
"if the world were a village of 100 people" and did different activities about it. I asked the kids, "What do you think these numbers are for: 8,100,000,000?"
Their answers were funny - chocolates? Candies? Animals? Chocolate Banana?
When I told them it's the world population, they were shocked and said, "That's a lot!" "We want to see everyone"
After that, We played a game and pretended our class is 100% of the population: 10 people
3 boys, 7 girls;
6 like chocolates, while 4 like candies;
1 speaks English at home, and 9 speaks Japanese.
Everyone had the chance to make 2 choices, and they all had fun discovering which one they like or which category they belong to. It was a fun day for everyone.
Thank you,

]]>Then we asked the question, "if the ice caps melt, what will happen to the water?" The students were able to answer correctly that the sea levels would rise. And if the sea levels rise, what will happen to people living on islands? Is Japan an island nation? Oh no!
Japan has a lot of big islands, though, so we may not see the effects now, but there are places where climate change has already made an impact. We learned about the island nation of Tuvalu in order to see what happens to a small island when the sea levels rise.
Then it was time for a game to show the students what it means to share a smaller and smaller amount of space. The students split into teams to see which team could stay on their island of paper the longest as storms and rising oceans shrink the land.
Everyone had to learn to share pretty quickly! Cooperation was definitely a better strategy than fighting with each other.
The girls' team even figured out that stacking things higher is a good option when you can't spread out. Great job everyone!

In Japan, it is common to use a 24-hour cycle for time, which means the time is displayed from 00:00 to 23:59, while in other countries, they use a 12-hour cycle.
During the clock activity, the kids enjoyed reading the time and completed different worksheets. They had fun learning about time.

Our art theme today was "Winter Birds."
While most winter birds are not so colorful, we decided to make ours more colorful in a wish that warm weather would come soon.

It was a little tricky to get the right angle to staple, but everyone did well.
We discussed the features of bird. The two most important - the beak and wings.
Students marked off where the eyes would be in pencil before beginning to color.
After doing the eyes, it was time to move on to the bodies.
This was quite an interesting pattern on a very well cut out bird.

Last month we learned about fossils, and today we learned about fossil fuels, which are contributing to climate change by putting greenhouse gases into the air! Oh no!
We asked questions like "what other ways can we find energy for electricity?" Wind, sunlight, and water are called sustainable energies because they won't run out! Let's use those instead!
Afterwards, we tested our understanding by matching climate change vocabulary with their definitions.

オーストラリアでなじみのあるVegemite(ベジマイト)
Umm…
Good job, everyone!

For our activity today, we finished our museum display of a triceratops. We had all of the bones cut out from last week, so this week, we had to put them all together into a skeleton.
The students worked together to build the skeleton and then glue down all of the bones.
Next, we needed to add some information about our triceratops. How big is it? What does it eat? What are the horns on its head for? We wrote the answers on paper plaques to add to our display.
Now it's time to put our skeleton on display!
Great job everyone!

]]>Since we've been discussing illusion, we have participated in different activities that helped us better understand it.
Today, we observed some optical illusion pictures that appeared to be moving but were not. Everyone was amazed and wondering how it worked. It made our heads and eyes hurt afterward.
Following that, we planned out our own perspective pictures.
Everyone was excited to plan which perspective they wanted to capture. They all had the chance to think and take note of the materials they would need.
They can't wait for next week's project!
Thank you

Great job everyone!!

Today, we learned a new way to do art.
Today's art technique was using a stencil.
What's a stencil?
A stencil is a part you cut out the inside of to make the shape you want.
By painting inside that shape, you create a fun pattern.
In our class, there is only one way to decide who gets to choose their paper color first.
That is rock, paper, scissors.
In this round, many students matched my scissors.
After the choosing order was decided, it was time to line up and pick out a piece of paper.
Blue was a popular choice.
Students began their art by choosing different footprints and leaves.
They carefully colored inside their stencils to make the pattern they wanted.
This dinosaur was walking on a path.
Then it was time to let the first layer of paint dry.
Fanning at it helped speed up the process.
After choosing a dinosaur, it was time to add another layer of paint.
Students carefully painted in single long strokes to fill in their stencils.
Completed dinosaurs were lifted up slowly.
Look at all our dinosaurs!

遊びの中で、Monkey in the Middle を行いました。
Good job, everyone!

Fossils can be an impression, like a footprint, or an egg, or bones. Today, we’re going to add some bones to our dinosaur display.
Using the big black paper from last week as a guide, the students measured and cut big dinosaur bones out of white paper, then arranged them into a skeleton.
Next week, we’ll finish up our display by adding some of the facts that we’ve learned this month about the dinosaurs!
Great job everyone!

]]>It's pictures within pictures!
Imagine looking at a picture and then finding another picture within it?
Isn't that amazing?
All the kids were amazed as they found different animals in the picture. The more they looked at the picture, the more they discovered.
After the first activity, we had a hidden picture challenge.
The class was divided into groups to find the image in the Magic Eye puzzle. Some groups were able to find the image, and everyone was challenged to look for more.
'Ehhhh' 'How?' 'I found one.' "Where?"
Everyone enjoyed and did great in this activity.
Well done, everyone!

Do you know what the students are holding?
They are holding a good luck charm for the new year.
What is your wish for the new year?
Do you want to pass an exam? Do you want to run faster?
"I want to not hurt or sick."
Students carefully cut the shape of the good luck charm out.
Then they folded the sides to create a pocket shape.
They put their carefully written wishes inside.
"Say wisdom." "Wisdom!"
Let's hope that all our wishes come true.

“It’s so heavy!!”
One, two, three…
Good job, everyone!

We discussed how long ago the dinosaurs lived, what Earth was like back then, and how it's different from today. Then we talked about different theories of what happened to the dinosaurs that caused their extinction.
Finally, we talked about how we know that the dinosaurs lived on the Earth when there are no dinosaurs alive today? Well, we have fossils, and scientists use those fossils to learn about the dinosaurs. Let's see if we can make a display of a dinosaur skeleton like they have in museums!
First, we need a canvas big enough for a dinosaur skeleton.
Next we need to sketch out the different parts of the skeleton so we can see how it all connects.
When we had the whole skeleton sketched out, it was time to roll it up and set it aside to finish next week!

Let's take a look at what the ACCESS kids learned and did today.
New month, new topic. This month, we will be learning about Optical Illusions
Today, we learned about optical illusions. Optical illusions are images and pictures that we perceive differently than they really are. They're more of a trick!
After learning about them, we moved on to the illusion quiz. It was pretty fascinating, especially after it was explained.
After learning all about them, we created an impossible shape - a shape that has no beginning or end.
Everyone did great and had fun!
See you next week!

Have a good holiday!

Today in ACCESS Science class, we continued our study of the moon. This week, we focused on the history of how different cultures around the world have used the moon in their stories and legends.
We learned that in Greece, China, and elsewhere, the moon is considered feminine, and we discussed why we think that is.
Then we talked about why so many cultures have stories about the moon, and we challenged the students to come up with their own stories.
We started by looking at the features of the full moon. By finding shapes in the face of the moon, we can start creating our story.
Some students saw dolphins.
Some students saw a moose.
Some students saw stag beetles and stars and whales!
What do you see in the face of the moon?
